1st Jewish Superman David Corenswet Refuses to Do Certain Movies After DCU Success

By Richard Martinez 11/03/2025

David Corenswet may have gained global popularity following the success of James Gunn’s Superman, but he is currently making headlines for signing the pledge by Film Workers for Palestine. According to that petition, Corenswet, among several other stars, has refused to work with Israeli film institutions that are allegedly tied to “genocide and apartheid” against Palestinians.

The pledge, launched on September 8, 2025, calls on film-industry workers to avoid festivals, production companies, and broadcasters in Israel that the group argues are complicit in the wider conflict (via The Guardian). Therefore, this move from Corenswet comes amid the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian groups, leading to the unfortunate demise of thousands of civilians and loss of human rights.

Hollywood Splits as Actors Take Sides in the Israel-Gaza Conflict

Meanwhile, David Corenswet isn’t the only actor to pick sides. As per Reuters, Hollywood is seeing a big divide right now, with more than 1,800 actors, filmmakers, and other entertainment workers signing the pledge. All of those celebrities have promised not to work with Israeli film groups that they believe are connected to the harm against Palestinians.

This pledge has become a major talking point in the film world, especially as the Gaza crisis continues to draw global attention. Signatories included actors Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed, Javier Bardem, and Cynthia Nixon, among others, who want to stand for human rights and support peace.

However, not everyone in Hollywood agrees. Some stars have chosen not to sign, believing the issue is complicated or because they prefer not to take public political stances. This has led to debates on social media, red carpets, and even inside film circles. As a result, Hollywood now looks divided, with different actors supporting different sides of the conflict.

Netizens Applaud David Corenswet’s Move, Hailing Him as the Real Superman

Now, if we focus the spotlight back on David Corenswet, the actor seems to be earning praises from netizens for his brave move. The Jewish actor who earned global fame following his DC flick Superman is now getting lauded by netizens who are calling his petition decision a real-life hero moment.

People are praising him for using his voice and influence for a cause he believes in, which feels very “Superman-like”. In fact, Corenswet even earned comparison with Dean Cain, who played Superman in the 1990s series Lois & Clark, especially since Cain told Fox News host Jesse Watters that he joined ICE to support Donald Trump’s anti-immigration agenda.
