Woody Harrelson has firmly closed the door on returning to True Detective, despite creator Nic Pizzolatto revealing plans for another season featuring the beloved characters Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. During his appearance on NBC’s 3rd Hour of Today on October 31, 2025, the 63-year-old actor stated,
Matthew’s so funny… In fairness, never. No chance.
The Now You See Me star explained his reasoning,
Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did. If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.
This rejection comes months after Pizzolatto disclosed on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast in May 2025 that both actors were open to reprising their roles from the critically acclaimed 2014 HBO series.
Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Toast to the 26th Anniversary of the Bongo Incident

Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, marked the 26th anniversary of his 1999 arrest with a campaign for their Pantalones Organic Tequila brand (via USA Today). The couple released a video on October 22, 2025, which included a reading of the official police report. The introduction was voiced by Steve Zirnkilton, known for his work on the Law & Order franchise, who noted McConaughey was “totally guilty.”
The original incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on October 25, 1999, after police received a noise complaint at McConaughey’s Austin home. Officers found the actor, then 29, naked and playing the bongo drums. He was charged with disturbing the peace, possession of m*rijuana, and resisting arrest, ultimately paying a $50 fine for the disturbance (via Independent).
In his 2020 memoir Greenlights, McConaughey wrote about the night, explaining he was
…enjoying music by Henri Dikongué.
The couple created a new cocktail called Pantsless and Famous for the anniversary campaign. Alves remarked (via Fox News),
Only Matthew could turn a night like that into something we celebrate with tequila.
Their brand’s advertisements often show them without pants, reflecting their slogan.
Production Troubles Hit Brothers While Now You See Me: Now You Don’t Nears Release

The Apple TV+ comedy series Brothers, starring McConaughey and Harrelson, suspended production on June 20, 2025. Filming stopped with eight of the ten episodes completed after showrunner David West Read left due to creative disagreements about the season’s ending. Lee Eisenberg, a writer for The Office, is in negotiations to take over for the final two episodes and oversee necessary reshoots (via Deadline).
The 10-episode series portrays a fictionalized account of the two actors and their families living together on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. Filming started in November 2024 with a cast that includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, and Brittany Ishibashi. Both McConaughey and Harrelson serve as executive producers on the project, which is produced by Skydance Television.
Meanwhile, Harrelson will appear in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, set for release on November 14, 2025. The film reunites the original Four Horsemen, with Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher returning.
The third installment is directed by Ruben Fleischer and introduces new illusionists played by Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt, with Rosamund Pike joining as the antagonist.
The plot follows the team as they recruit the younger generation to steal a diamond from a crime family. Early reviews in October 2025 described the movie as entertaining, though Tony Mosello of Critics’ Choice called it “more of the same” while noting fans would enjoy its twists.
Fisher returns after being absent from the 2016 sequel, but Mark Ruffalo and Lizzy Caplan do not reprise their roles. A fourth film is reportedly in development as per Variety.
