Selena Gomez is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons, and this time, her friendship with Nicola Peltz Beckham is being questioned, perhaps because of her closeness with her husband, Brooklyn Beckham. But more on this in a bit.
Gomez is happily married to the love of her life, Benny Blanco, but her past controversies keep resurfacing online. After hearing about her alleged fallout with the Beckhams, netizens are pointing out that the Heart Wants What It Wants singer has a history of getting with her friends’ exes.
Let’s take a look at all the love triangles Gomez has allegedly been a part of in the past, starting off with 1/3 of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas.
1. Nick Jonas
Apart from Disney and incredible vocals, Miley Cyrus and Gomez have another thing in common: Nick Jonas. The youngest member of the boy band dated Cyrus between 2006 and December 2007 (via Life & Style). The Jonas Brothers even opened for Cyrus’ Best of Both Worlds tour during this time and made a cameo on Hannah Montana in the episode, Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas.
In 2008, though, Jonas moved on with Gomez. What followed was Cyrus dropping a banger rage song, 7 Things, in which she sang, “The seven things I hate about you / Oh, you/ You’re vain, your games, you’re insecure/ You love me, you like her.”
While Cyrus never revealed the true muse behind the song, fans were quick to link it to Jonas. He even admitted that she wore a dog tag he gave her in the music video. Talking to BBC Radio 1, Jonas said, “I’ve never directly heard that from Miley, but she does wear a dog tag that I gave her when I was 14.“
Things apparently got so awkward between Cyrus and Gomez that the two girls didn’t cross paths even once on the set of Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana (2009). Spilling the tea on Wizards of Waverly Pod, Jennifer Stone revealed,
It was, like, high school. Like, they both dated Nick. I think Miley dated him first and then Selena dated him, and then it was just messy high school nonsense…They’re all good now.
2. Justin Theroux
Gomez and Jennifer Aniston aren’t two names that will come to mind immediately after we say ‘Hollywood besties’. However, the unlikely duo did share a close bond with each other.
Apparently, the FRIENDS alum has been a maternal figure to Gomez in the past. She stated (via E! News),
We met through my management — they manage her as well — so it was kind of like a friendly meeting and instantly she’s, like, inviting me to her house…She’s very cool and very sweet. She kind of gives me a lot of, like, maternal advice.
Aniston began dating Justin Theroux in 2011 after working on Wanderlust together. They even got married, only to go their separate ways in 2017 after only two years since their wedding.
Later, a source told Life & Style that things were heating up between Gomez and Theroux, who became “close than ever“. The source added, “It’s turned into something more than a friendship. Selena and Justin are falling for each other.” This was despite a 21-year age gap between them. On the other hand, the source added that “Jen is not happy about it.”
Interestingly, in 2023, Theroux was spotted biking around NYC wearing a t-shirt with Gomez’s face on it (via PEOPLE).
3. The Weeknd
Gomez and Bella Hadid were never the best of friends, but having a common friend group sure helped. Hadid was once in an on-again-off-again relationship with The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, after initially connecting with him in 2015. They split for the first time in late 2016.
As per PEOPLE, Tesfaye and Gomez met at the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, while still in a relationship with Hadid. In 2017, sources admitted that the two singers’ relationship was “new and nothing serious.” They made their red carpet debut at the 2017 Met Gala, but separated later that year.
Gomez told Billboard,
Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me.
Just two weeks after the breakup, Tesfaye and Hadid rekindled their romance. After all had been said and done, Gomez caught flak for trying too hard to copy Hadid:

Before their recent troubles, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom faced other setbacks in their relationship, one of them being the rumors about him and Gomez. Just five months after Bloom and Perry met and were reported to be together, the actor was seen being intimate with the Wolves singer.
As per TMZ‘s source, they got “touchy feely” with each other at the Light in Mandalay Bay club in Vegas. Back then, Bloom was 39 years old while she was only 23.

Perry and Gomez weren’t best friends ever, but they did share a bond with each other, having been spotted at multiple award shows together. Meanwhile, Perry seemingly put an end to any such rumor through a cryptic tweet where she urged her fans to stop “giving energy to dumb conspiracy.“
5. Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber and Gomez were once Hollywood’s most iconic couple, and now they’re one of the most controversial exes. While there is no confirmation that Gomez “stole” Bieber from anyone, there are many rumors supporting the same.
Bieber’s ex, Jasmine Villegas, accused Gomez of making things awkward on his tour. She said, “It kind of got a little awkward on tour because she would come to the tour…” Villegas added that she and Bieber broke up in the middle of his tour, after which he got together with Gomez.

However, a simple fact check reveals that the account behind the “report” is a parody account on the social media platform, known for its anti-Gomez posts.
While this may not be true, Entertainment Tonight‘s source claimed that the Beckhams and Gomez’s friendship has “eventually faded“. The source also added that Nicola and Brooklyn weren’t invited to her wedding with Blanco.
In 2023, Gomez posted a carousel of photos with the couple on Instagram, captioning it, “Fine calls us a throuple #foreverplusone.“
