A decade later, it looks like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are ready to face off against each other in the ring one more time. According to Ring Magazine‘s sources, a rematch between the two boxers is being explored by Netflix as we speak.
This won’t be the first time the streaming giant holds such an event – we all remember the disappointment that was Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. The younger Paul brother is all set to fight Gervonta “Tank” Davis on November 14, exclusively for Netflix.
Could Mayweather vs Pacquiao be the next on Netflix’s list, and is it something that fans would want? Take a look at what some have to say about the possible face-off:
At least they’re both in their primes pic.twitter.com/pfxbaF7lce
The money’s still there. The magic isn’t.
I thing we've all had about enough of both of them. I'd rather see some fresh boxers who throw punches.
The rematch is way past it's expiration date. They are too old 🙄 pic.twitter.com/u56eqKTLmL
these men too old to be fighting
Clearly, not a lot of fans are excited about the match, especially given the players’ age. Mayweather is currently 48 years old, while his reported opponent will be turning 47 in mid-December. Netflix may or may not be onto something here, but should the streaming platform invest in something not many care about?
What Happened the Last Time Manny Pacquiao Fought Floyd Mayweather?

The OG fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao took place on May 02, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada. Both players were in their prime for one of the biggest fights in boxing history.
The arena was sold out, bets were placed, and the fighters were ready. After a series of rounds and an impressive performance by both, Mayweather won by unanimous decision. As per ESPN, judge Dave Moretti scored the fight 118-110. Both judges, Glenn Feldman and Burt Clements, gave a score of 116-112, and so did ESPN.
After the fight, Mayweather gave credit where credit was due, stating (via Washington Post),
[Pacquiao] definitely had his moments in the fight. As long as I moved on the outside, I was able to stay away from those. He’s a really smart fighter … My dad wanted me to do more, but I had to take my time. Because Manny Pacquiao is a competitor, and he’s extremely dangerous.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao had a different outlook. He stated, “I thought I won the fight. He’s moving around. It’s not easy to throw punches when he’s moving around so much … I thought I caught him many more times than he caught me.”
Manny Pacquiao Wants to Fight Floyd Mayweather Again

All those years ago, Manny Pacquiao was fully convinced that the results should have been in his favor. Talking to reporters (via Rappler), he stated that he had watched the fight several times, adding, “I scored it and I believe I won by two points against Mayweather. But we have to accept the decision.”
After this, Mayweather claimed that he wouldn’t want a rematch with Pacquiao and called him things like a “sore loser” and a “coward.” Well, if Pac-Man is looking for redemption, Netflix is handing it to him on a silver platter.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference after his draw with Mario Barrios on July 19, Pacquiao expressed his interest in fighting Mayweather again. He stated,
It’s hard to talk about a fihgter who [is] retired. But if he comes out [of retirement] and signs the contract, then we will fight. Let’s fight again, if he wants, I have no problem with that. I’m active now. I don’t pick my opponent. I’ll fight them all in my weight division.
Mayweather retired in 2017 following an undefeated record of 50-0. Would he put his impressive record on the line for a rematch with Pacquiao? Well, he did call him “the best fighter [he] ever fought.”
During his appearance on The Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Mayweather continued, “It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter and I can see why he won so many fights and I can see why he’s going down as a hall of famer. It’s just certain moves that he makes.“
Is Pacquiao’s redemption around the corner, or will Mayweather add another win to his record? Let us know in the comments section how you think the reported fight could play out!
