Sydney Sweeney has long been under speculation for being eyed by Jeff Bezos’ Amazon MGM Studios for being the next ‘Bond’ girl, and her latest comments have only further added fuel to the fire. This comes after Amazon gained creative control over the James Bond franchise earlier this year, and Denis Villeneuve is attached to this next project as its director.
Recently, in an interview with Variety, she was asked to address whether there was any truth to the Bond rumors and if the Amazon founder indeed very much wants her to play a Bond girl. To this, the actress seemed to ‘unravel for the first and only time’ during the interview as she said,
I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it.
Well, truthfully speaking, that doesn’t sound all that convincing to slam down all the rumors and speculation about her being the next Bond girl once and for all. But that’s not all. The interviewer further pushed her to ask if she would be interested in the role, to which Sydney Sweeney regained her composure while mulling over the possibility before answering assuredly,
Depends on the script. I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.
Playing coy, Sweeney? Certainly seems like it. What’s worth noting, though, is that this isn’t the first time for her to be entangled in such reports. A few months ago, insiders claimed that the actress is topping the list of the prospective actresses who could be the next Bond girl in the peerless spy franchise under Amazon. The insider said,
Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond.
At the time, the Anyone but You actress was even said to have earned the approval of Jeff Bezos for being cast in the role. These reports surfaced after she attended his wedding with Lauren Sánchez earlier this year, with the sources backing up the claims with the argument that Sweeney is good friends with Villeneuve as well. The reports further claimed that the director also wants her on board, and Bezos reportedly approves.
However, while that’s that, it needs to be acknowledged that all of these are only mere insider reports and speculation. As of this writing, no official reports have surfaced about her confirmed casting, so it can’t be written in stone for now whether Bezos actually wants Sweeney on board and whether she wants to be the next Bond girl, too, or not.
Earlier, Insiders Claimed Sydney Sweeney Is Not in Talks for ‘Bond Girl’ Role
Prior to Sydney Sweeney’s latest comments making waves in the sea of prospective Bond girl candidates, insiders claimed to TMZ in July this year that the actress is not currently in talks for the respective role in this upcoming installment from Denis Villeneuve. Apparently, this casting conversation is ‘just wishful thinking by her fans.’
While TMZ went on to say that this doesn’t close the door on any future prospects of the actress playing the role of a Bond girl, it ‘currently ain’t happening for this first 007 flick from Amazon MGM Studios, after the company took over the film franchise.’ Additionally, she is also set to star in Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of Split Fiction, the hit video game, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, so that’s that too.
To say the least, all these rumors, reports, and speculations are conflicting, and nothing can be said for sure for now. What is known, though, is that Sweeney is working with Bezos and Sánchez on another project – her own lingerie line, which has been backed by the billionaire couple through a venture capital company called Coatue, per reports from TMZ.
