Another year and another Colleen Hoover adaptation is out in Hollywood, with 2 more to follow in 2026. Regretting You, the author’s 2019 novel, is the latest of her works to get the movie treatment after last year’s It Ends With Us.
While not as messy and controversial as the 2024 film, Regretting You still has some questionable elements in its plot, as the characters navigate heartbreak, grief, loss, betrayal, regrets, and second chances. With Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone helming the romantic drama, the film contains a who’s who of Hollywood stars in its impressive cast roster.
Read on to find out about all the actors in the film and their corresponding roles:
1. Allison Williams as Morgan Grant

As the headlining character in the film, Allison Williams has a traditional role as the grieving widow with a teenage daughter. The trope gets saturated even further as she hides her husband’s affair to protect her daughter’s feelings after they both suffer a tremendous and sudden loss.
The story also follows her strained relationship with her headstrong daughter, Clara, as the two grow further apart following the tragedy. Williams delivers a compelling performance as a woman fighting a lone battle while trying to heal what remains of her family and shielding her child from the horrifying reality.
2. Mckenna Grace as Clara Grant

Mckenna Grace grew up in front of the public’s eyes, working in films like Gifted (2017) with Chris Evans and critically acclaimed shows like The Handmaid’s Tale. Now, she returns with her stellar talents and youthful angst in the Colleen Hoover adaptation as a teenager navigating a major personal tragedy following the loss of her father.
In Regretting You, Grace’s Clara Grant is a lively kid who, following the death of her father, feels betrayed by her mother’s lack of empathy or love toward the memory of the latter’s husband. She fights, acts out, shuts down, and rebels in every possible manner against Allison Williams’ Morgan Grant, before eventually coming to terms with the truth.
3. Scott Eastwood as Chris Grant

Scott Eastwood, the son of the legendary Western actor and director Clint Eastwood, has made only a fraction of the impact compared to his father. But the roles he has inhabited, no matter how small, always carried the full weight of a seasoned performance.
In Regretting You, Eastwood again acts in a small capacity as the father of the family, Chris Grant, and is responsible for the story’s catalytic turning point when he gets involved in a car accident and dies. The accident sets off a chain of events that reveals betrayals and truths that hurt more than reality itself.
However, it is Eastwood’s sunny laughter and wholesome presence that looms in the background, haunting the mother-daughter duo long after he is gone. To the former, he is a reminder of how appearances can be deceptive, and to the latter, he lives in the memory of his daughter as the doting and devoted father.
4. Willa Fitzgerald as Jenny Davidson

Willa Fitzgerald recently climbed the popularity charts after her role in Reacher, alongside Alan Ritchson, and as one of the leads in Netflix’s seductive new medical drama, Pulse.
In the Colleen Hoover adaptation, she plays Jenny Davidson, Morgan’s sister. Despite being married herself, she goes on to have an affair with Chris Grant, Morgan’s husband. In a sadistic twist of fate, she was in the car with Chris during the accident and died shortly after being brought to the hospital.
In the aftermath, the affair comes to light, and Jenny, who was a loving sister, a devoted wife, and a doting aunt, becomes a cause of both grief and betrayal to Morgan, her sister, and Jonah, her husband.
5. Dave Franco as Jonah

Dave Franco stars in this romantic drama as Jonah, Jenny’s husband, who comes to terms with her affair in the fallout of the accident. The Now You See Me actor is surprisingly poignant in this moving familial tragedy, as he not only plays the devastated husband searching for closure while also navigating the growing feelings he develops toward Morgan, his wife’s sister.
6. Mason Thames as Miller

Mason Thames first shot to prominence as the lead of the Scott Derrickson horror movie, The Black Phone, in 2021. 4 years later, he delivers back-to-back blockbusters through the highly anticipated horror sequel, Black Phone 2, and the romantic drama, Regretting You.
Though a supporting character in the film, Mason Thames’ brilliant performance as the compassionate rebel Miller almost steals the whole show. He is emotionally supportive of his classmate, Clara, when she loses her father, helps her escape the frustrations of her family, is funny and charming when the situation calls for it, and is surprisingly mature for his age.
After becoming an unwitting pawn in Clara’s revenge plan against her mother, Thames’s single scene is powerful enough to rock the entire plot back into shape. He not only pushes Clara to find the closure she needs, but also drives her to heal her relationship with her mother, contend with the truth about her father, and be honest about her feelings toward him.
