When Jeremy Renner returned to the gritty streets of Mayor of Kingstown after his near-fatal snowplow accident, he did so under one non-negotiable term: his mother’s iron-clad vigilance. The 54-year-old Avengers actor, who miraculously survived being crushed by a 14,300-pound snowplow in January 2023 while saving his nephew, stepped back onto set with titanium in his body and courage in his heart.
As he reflected on his recovery and comeback ahead of Season 4’s premiere later this month, Renner revealed a maternal warning that turned heads. “My mom would kill Hugh if he did anything wrong,” he quipped (per PEOPLE), referring to co-creator and co-star Hugh Dillon.
Dillon, who also plays Ian in the Paramount+ crime drama, remembered that moment vividly:
When he came back [on set], I remember I had to promise his mom that we’d take care of him. He was in such a vulnerable place, and Taylor [Sheridan] always said, ‘Whatever it takes.’ It’s not just, you know, get to the end of the season or get to the end of the scene. With the titanium in his body, I want him to be happy. This is his life — it’s not just work.
Renner, recalling his early return, confessed that he leaned on his castmates in every sense of the word. “I had to physically lean on people, emotionally lean on them, and they took care of me,” he shared. He did his “best to take care of them” and get through the show as best we could.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 4: Jeremy Renner Thanks Crew for Support After Near-Fatal Accident

After his near-fatal 2023 accident, Jeremy Renner returned to Mayor of Kingstown with care and caution. He acknowledged the crew’s constant support, helping him heal, work safely, and regain confidence on set. Renner revealed on CBS Mornings:
Everybody is very good about taking care of me.
Season four of Mayor of Kingstown promises to be as tense as a ticking clock. Renner admitted:
It is a pretty intense show. … all the main storyline involves all of the players, the main players, in the show. So there are not a lot of side storylines that you have to kind of follow, so it keeps everything pretty intense for everybody on the show.
This season, Renner’s Mike McLusky faces fresh chaos as Edie Falco joins the ensemble as Nina Hobbs, the hard-nosed new warden of Anchor Bay Prison. Renner added:
To come up against a brick wall like Nina Hobbs, the new warden in town, creates real real real problems for Mike throughout the entire season.
Falco, known for The Sopranos, expressed her thrill at playing another powerful woman. She shared:
On more than one occasion, my agents have called me and said, ‘well the part was written for a man.’ … After I learned not to take that personally, I’ve come to really enjoy the place of power that a lot of these women stand in and do so with a great amount of confidence.
Well, Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown crew made sure Renner didn’t overexert himself, and provided emotional encouragement so he could focus on performing again.
When Is Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 Coming Back: Release Date, Time & Streaming Details

The countdown is on! Mayor of Kingstown returns to Paramount+ on October 26, 2025, with a special two-episode premiere. Co-creator and actor Hugh Dillon teased (via Entertainment Weekly):
It’s a detonation, not an escalation. The blade’s sharper. The cuts go deeper. It’s about the intricacies of human emotion under pressure, and the choices we make when we have no good choices left. It’s an incendiary season 4.
Renner echoed the sentiment in an interview with Good Morning America, highlighting Falco’s addition:
Edie Falco, I think, is a really great highlight. She creates a lot of problems for me to get to try to protect my brother, who’s a cop who goes to prison. So there’s a lot of tension that goes on between us two.
Season 4 will run for 10 episodes, dropping weekly after the double premiere. Here’s the full release lineup:
