By Kevin Thomas 10/19/2025

With the recent revelation that Tom Ellis had auditioned for the role of Reed Richards that ultimately went to Pedro Pascal in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, fans are mad.

Taking to X, fans unanimously agreed that the Lucifer star could have been the better choice for Reed Richards instead of Pascal.

Oh him as Reed would have done numbers too .
He got the arrogance of Reed and mastered it better.
Man a true what if cause that would have been interesting to see !

I would have actually watched the movie if he was reed, Pedro is so unlikable

Pedro was a better fit for the role, but this actor would have still been great.

Ok now I’m extremely angry, Tom would’ve killed this role

Other than the fact that fans really like Tom Ellis and have been following him since the days of Lucifer, we actually have 4 reasons why Ellis could have been a better Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

4.) Tom Ellis Looks Almost Like Reed Richards

Well, to be fair, Tom Ellis’s look with a cropped beard resembles Reed Richards more closely than Pedro Pascal’s look in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

With a particular emphasis on the Reed Richards introduced in the ’60s and the ’70s, Ellis fits the role visually better for the classic Reed Richards.

3.) Tom Ellis Knows How To Play Flawed Characters

Tom Ellis had his breakthrough role as Lucifer, God’s fallen angel, in the 2016 show, Lucifer. Literally, being the Devil, Ellis portrayed the role of an anti-hero, who was deeply flawed.

Despite being the highest of negative characters, Ellis portrayed the role of Lucifer effortlessly. Fans fell for his charm, his wit, and the unique take that they had for Lucifer.

It was all thanks to Tom Ellis’s acting as the betrayer of God that Lucifer found such success. And it was thanks to Lucifer that Ellis found the ability to portray flawed characters perfectly.

2.) The Lucifer Actor Can Command a Room

With the ability to command a room, Tom Ellis can snatch everyone’s attention as soon as he walks into a location. Being a suave gentleman with killer looks, Ellis is one of the few actors who can actually take command of a room without speaking a word.

From his time in Lucifer to his role as Gary in Miranda, Ellis has always been the center of attention. Naturally, this quality would be something that Reed Richards would have in the comics, especially considering his genius.

1. Tom Ellis Could Have Given Reed Richards an Arrogant Depth

Well, there is a subtle hint of arrogance and pride that Reed Richards has. Often ignoring everyone and everything in the pursuit of science, Reed Richards can come off as a pretty arrogant character.

Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards did not seem to have any sort of arrogance, and an arrogant anti-hero is what Tom Ellis excels at. From his days of Lucifer, Ellis has that arrogant charm and charisma around him that often actors do not have.

If Ellis had been cast, he would have added a certain depth to the character of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which seemed absent with Pedro Pascal.

Do you think Tom Ellis would have made for a better Reed Richards? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
