Will Andrew Garfield & Tobey Maguire be in Avengers: Doomsday? MCU Star Exposes the Answer

By William Jones 10/10/2025

While Tom Holland is stated to be back as the webslinger in the MCU with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fates of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are unknown. Thankfully, Garfield cleared the air on this on a recent panel with Variety, where he was asked about their return to the MCU. He said:

No. Unequivocally, f*cking no.

Thus, we can expect that neither of them was called in to be part of the upcoming Avengers Doomsday, which will be the two-part finale of Phase 6 of the MCU. But what’s more shocking is the fact that even Holland is not announced as one of the cast members of the movie.

Tom Holland Is Also Not Stated to Be Part of Avengers: Doomsday

The one-time visual feast of watching all three Spider-Men on screen together in Spider-Man: No Way Home was expected not to be recreated again. But what shocked everyone was the fact that Tom Holland wasn’t included in the list of stars that will be part of Avengers: Doomsday (via The Wrap).

But after the ending of the last Spider-Man film in the MCU, it should’ve been expected, as after everyone forgot about him, he went off to do his own thing as a new, more comic-accurate version of the superhero.

And with the statements made by Holland himself, this story of the webslinger will be a street-level tale, which means no multiversal shenanigans. Thus, with that connection in mind, it was highly likely that his presence in the upcoming Avengers film wasn’t happening.

However, new reports raise doubts about the official claims of the star not being part of the film, which means hopes can still be kept high, for the time being.

What Are the Recent Updates on the Development of Avengers: Doomsday

While the film was initially scheduled to be released in May 2026, due to filming and other issues with the development, it was rescheduled for December of that year. And thankfully, there haven’t been any further delays in the release date since then.

However, there have been many new things that have happened in the making of the film since then. There was allegedly a fight between Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Reynolds on the sets of the film, on top of RDJ being frustrated with his body doubles acting as Doctor Doom, which led to a two-week extension of that shoot taking place.

And to top it off, there have also been speculations surrounding the return of Jonathan Majors in the role of Kang The Conquerer after his past comments resurface. Thus, as the film stays on schedule, we will be receiving more updates on the film soon. Here’s more information about the release of Avengers: Doomsday below.
